Our experience

At Valinka, we have a very clear picture of what we believe to be the ideal Labrador. The Labrador was originally (and should always be) a medium sized dog with a calm and even temperament. As a Gundog, they should have a temperament that does not shy at loud noises and the ability to remain quiet and vigilant for hours at a time.

As a Retriever, they should have the strength to carry a large weight in their mouth for some distance, and the gentleness of mouth to not damage that object or animal. As a Water Retriever, they should have the capacity and inclination to swim out into deep water, and the strength to bring back a heavy object from the water. As a strong, yet medium sized dog, they should be neither large and cloddy, nor fine and delicately structured. While these basic characteristics make the Labrador an extremely effective Gundog and retriever, it’s their intelligence and trainability that make them one of the most versatile dogs in the world.

Need attention

Dogs need people

It’s quite common for our puppies to sit and remain calm while being petted, even when extremely young, to respond very quickly to training, to almost be able to “teach themselves” when it comes to learning commands. The downside to this specialisation is that our dogs need people.

They’re not suited to homes where everyone works during the day and the puppy/dog would be left alone for long hours, or where the puppy is destined to be an outside dog. They are suited to homes where there’s a lot of activity, disruption, screaming children, chaos, mental health issues, anxiety disorders, behavioural problems, health issues, or just loneliness. These dogs love to be with people all the time, feeling the pulse of the home and its occupants, and they’ll provide an endless supply of love and affection.

Endless abilities

Myriad of capacities

Our Valinka Labradors are being utilized in a myriad of capacities, and their uses are ever expanding as their abilities are being further explored. Our Valinka Labradors are slowly spreading out across the globe, with puppies on the East and West coast of Australia, up to the top end and way down South. We have puppies in England, Europe, Singapore, and Hong Kong. The pups we have bred have been (or are being) trained for use as:

  1. Therapy dogs in hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, and schools.
  2. Assistance dogs for those with ADHD, PTSD, Autism, mental health issues, physical disabilities and other special needs.
  3. Alert dogs for those with epilepsy or diabetes.
  4. Guide dogs or Seeing Eye dogs for the blind and vision impaired.
  5. Emotional support dogs
  6. SES tracker dogs
  7. Working gundogs
  8. Truffle hunting dogs.
  9. Plus a copious number of beloved family pets, who provide therapy to all the people in their lives.
